This site exists because of the people who have researched, written, and shared what they know about Monkton. This page records who’s contributed so far.

Stuart Horsburgh — Project Lead

Stuart leads this project: gathering material, interviewing villagers, and steering what the site covers. His own contributions so far include the Monkton 1926 Centenary Mile Walk — a map and guide to the village as it looked a hundred years ago, the first stage of a longer effort to collect residents’ memories — and the churchyard survey that underpins the Church section’s clergy list, bells, war memorial, and full record of the churchyard’s graves.

Terry Marsh

Terry has contributed two regular columns, originally written for the Monkton News parish magazine and reproduced here: Monkton Memories, childhood and village-life reminiscences, and A Farming Life, an account of his working life on Monkton and Thanet farms from 1976 onwards. Together they’re the site’s main first-hand record of what the village was actually like to live and work in.

Karen Wolstenhulme

Karen has kindly given access to her archive collection of village photographs, newspaper clippings and articles. These will be gradually added to the website over the coming weeks & months. (More details will be added as we scan and upload the items).

Hugh O’Neill — Website Manager

Although not a contributor of any content, Hugh has built and maintains the website. So, if you find any errors, technical issues or have a suggestion to improve things please contact Hugh (details on the About page).
